Sunscreen is an important part of sun protection, but can be a challenge for the following reasons:
- Allergic reactions – Have parents sign a consent form to provide sunscreen to their child or children can bring their own sunscreen. Children with an allergy to one sunscreen, may not be allergic to another brand. Advise parents that low allergenic brands are available, for example sunscreen developed for toddlers or sensitive skin often has less perfumes and additives than other sunscreens.
- Students wasting sunscreen supplied in bathrooms – Keep dispensers in the classrooms and supervise application before breaks. Inform parents of new students to the centre about the sun protection policy and the correct application of sunscreen.
