WA // Win $10 000 for shade – winners announced!

SunSmart and Cancer Council WA are pleased to announce the winner of the 2020 Win $10 000 Shade Competition is:

Bindoon Primary School

Congratulations to staff and students at Bindoon PS!

The winners of one of 5 SunSmart packs are:

  • Cunderdin District High School
  • Harmony Primary School, Atwell
  • North Beach Primary School
  • Phoenix Primary School, Hamilton Hill
  • Rockingham Lakes Primary School.

Our winning schools were drawn at random and had to be a current SunSmart School to be eligible.

This year we had entries from 156 schools. We would love to be able to give all schools funding for shade. If your school is desperate for shade, please get in touch with either Dep of Education, Catholic Education WA or AISWA to see if they are offering any funding.

The announcement of our 2020 Win $10 000 for Shade competition coincides with National Skin Cancer Action Week, from 15-21 November.

Many Australians will remember the ‘Sid the Seagull’ campaign from the 1980s which launched the ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ message. Some things have changed since then but our sun is still the same. A lot of those Australians who first heard Sid’s message now have kids of their own. National Skin Cancer Action Week is the perfect opportunity to remind them of the importance of staying SunSmart, not just for themselves but for their kids as well.

We sincerely thank all schools for entering the competition, promoting the SunSmart message and working towards reducing the incidence of skin cancer.
