Protecting My Skin

Protecting My Skin- SunSmart curriculum resources now available!

Cancer Council WA have developed a collection of classroom friendly, educational resources for Western Australian primary schools, outside school hours care (OSHC) and vacation care services. Protecting My Skin contains full lessons, activities and information specific to SunSmart behaviours and health promotion practices. There are three versions, tailored to Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6. This provides teachers and educators with already planned lessons that can be easily implemented into the classroom. The resource can be used in its entirety, with lessons that follow on from one another or as individual activities that best suit the needs of your students.

Protecting My Skin has been created in reference to the Western Australian curriculum and links to a range of learning areas including Health and Physical Education, Science, Technologies, English, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Including sun safety education within the classroom provides the opportunity for students to develop views related to promoting positive health practices, critical thinking, health literacy and their overall safety and wellbeing. It is important that we empower children and young people to make healthy, informed and safe choices related to sun exposure and ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

Reminder: When completing activities and lessons outdoors when the UV Index is 3 or above, please remember to be SunSmart.
